A little bit more about Danie Pieterse and Green Energy
It all started when I was building our house in Mossel Bay. At this stage it was a good chance to implement a more sustainable life style. It is difficult to become fully sustainable due to costs, but the changes I made were as follows:
A Grey water system for recycling my bath and washing machine water into the garden. This we did by sinking a 200l drum just below ground with a small pump, which pumps automatically as it fills up. The Grey water keeps my lawn green and cuts my water bill with a couple of thousand liters.
Rainwater harvesting for the vegetable garden and for general outside use. It is a nice feeling to know there is a little backup water?
After extensive research on solar water heating,         I found a product which had a 10 year guarantee and looked superior to the rest, and believe me there are huge differences in quality with different systems.
I installed my system in mid winter of 2008. I was so impressed with the way my solar system preformed that
I got a dealership from the ITS-Solar and started installing them for my clients. I hope to run my whole house on solar and wind power in the near future.
Using my electrical background I’ve been experimenting with solar and saving energy at home, in this way helping my clients.
The right lighting, geyser timers and blankets can be a big saving in the long run. Once my house was finished I started with compost worms, they make beautiful rich compost full of humus and microbial activity from your organic waste. This I use for my FOOD garden.
Now recycling is just a routine part of my life.
